The Chamber Orchestra of Johannesburg

The Chamber Orchestra of Johannesburg is a freelance orchestra based in Johannesburg, which is run by the management of Web Maestro as their resident ensemble. The intention was never to create a full-time orchestra but rather an exciting vibrant group which with an appetite for different genres. Under its musical director Kutlwano Masote the orchestra has performed at various high profile events since 2007.

These include:

  • Jazz Meets Symphony – 2007, 2008 and 2011
  • Technology Top 100 Awards - 2006, 2008 and 2010
  • DAC’s Africa Day celebrations - 2009
  • National tour of Coming Home, a jazz gospel cantata - 2011
  • Pretty Yende in Concert - 2013
  • 702 Mothers’ Day Concert - 2014
  • Madiba the African Opera – 2014

The orchestra also boasts a mentorship programme where selected younger musicians are paired with a more seasoned professional in the orchestra in order to gain invaluable orchestral experience. While excellence is the main criteria, we are mindful of the need to transform the face of South Africa’s orchestras in their look and in the interesting repertoire and projects they select.
